Stix — the electric 4WD Hiace for couples.
Sleeps 2 inside. Fully electric, zero gas. The comfort and quiet of a Toyota Hiace with the extra grip of 4WD traction on the gravel access roads — not a hardcore off-roader, and we say so up front. A real queen bed inside, a huge 8.5m² awning, and 300Ah of off-grid power. The value pick for couples who want a bed indoors and a bit more confidence on the dirt to camp.

What the "4WD" actually means.
Stix is a Toyota Hiace 4WD conversion. The four-wheel drive is real and it earns its keep — better traction and composure on the well-graded gravel access roads to campsites, where a 2WD van has to tread carefully. That's the genuine benefit: confidence on the dirt, with the ride and quiet of a Hiace.
What it is not is a rock-crawler. No beach driving, no soft sand, no corrugated tracks, no Gibb River Road — up to 7km of good gravel to a campsite and that's the line. If you want that honesty over marketing spin, and a comfy bed inside rather than a tent on the roof, Stix is built for exactly your trip.

I honestly cannot recommend the van and Johan enough! Truly the best few days ever. Having never done van life before, I have been fully converted after 9 days in this beauty — so much so I now want to convert my own. Johan had thought of everything we could possibly need; the van is so well equipped and every utensil is 10/10. The induction hob, speedy kettle and toastie made eating on the road so easy. Johan was great with questions and full of recommendations for places to go. Seriously made our trip a complete dream.

As first-timers holidaying in a van, it was great. Has everything you need and more. The bed was comfortable, the pull-out kitchen was so useful and the whole set-up worked really well. Any issues or problems we had, Johan responded quickly. I would use this van again for sure.

Great trip with Johan's van — fully equipped to be comfortable and self-sufficient on the road. Straightforward communication, which is appreciated. Great tips on the itinerary too. Highly recommended.

The questions couples ask first.
Q.01 Is Stix a "real" 4WD — where can it actually go?
Be clear-eyed about this: Stix is a Toyota Hiace 4WD conversion. The 4WD gives you genuine traction and confidence on the approved gravel access roads — more grip and composure than the 2WD campervans — but it is NOT a hardcore off-roader. The policy is the same as the rest of the fleet: sealed roads plus up to 7km of well-maintained gravel to a campsite (max 60km/h). No beach driving, soft sand, dunes or corrugated tracks. Think "comfort of a Hiace with extra grip", not rock-crawling.
Q.02 How many people does it sleep?
Two adults inside, on a comfortable 203cm queen bed (it has two seatbelts — it's a couples vehicle). For a third traveller there's an optional swag with an inflatable mattress ($60 per trip) that sleeps outside. No child seat is fitted to this vehicle.
Q.03 How long can it stay off-grid?
A 300Ah lithium battery, a 1500W inverter, two fixed solar panels and a DC-DC charger that tops up while you drive. That's around 3 hours of continuous induction cooking on a full battery, or days of normal use — the 110L fridge/16L freezer, lights, kettle, microwave and toastie maker. Zero gas, no powered site needed.
Q.04 How is Stix different from the Voyager or the Wanderer?
The Voyager is a 2WD Hiace with a fixed bed and zero nightly setup — same off-grid system, smoother on pure bitumen. The Wanderer is a rooftop-tent 4WD with roof Starlink for couples who want to camp up high and stay connected. Stix sits between them: you sleep inside on a queen (no ladder, no tent), you get 4WD traction for the gravel access roads, plus a huge 8.5m² awning and an outdoor shower. It's the value pick for couples who want grip and an inside bed.
Q.05 Price, pickup and what's included?
From $160/day, 2-day minimum (varies by date), driver age 24+. WA National Parks Pass on the vehicle, comprehensive insurance, and 200 km/day averaged across the hire (excess $0.50/km, no daily cap). A $100 service fee applies. It runs on petrol — return it full. Linen for two is an optional $60, a swag $60. Pickup and return are near Perth Airport — Perth only, no one-ways.
Q.06 Who hosts Stix?
It's listed by Johan, a long-time Offgrid Campers WA partner host (Camplify member since 2023, 100+ reviews across his fleet). Johan does the in-person handover and briefing and is contactable throughout your trip. Booking, payment and insurance run through Camplify, so it's verified on-platform.
Fuel cost estimator
Roughly what you'll spend on fuel for a WA trip. Pick the camper, set the distance, drop in today's pump price. It's an estimate — real use depends on load, terrain, aircon, headwinds and how you drive.
Estimate only. Fleet averages: diesel ≈ 12.5 L/100km, petrol ≈ 14 L/100km — edit the L/100km if your route is heavy on gravel, hills or headwinds. Fuel is paid by you and is on top of the hire price and Camplify insurance.
